Bull Shoals

Bull Shoals camping in Arkansas spreads 363 campsites across nine campgrounds on the lake. Nearly half of them — 172 sites, or 47% — sit within 330 feet of the water. Electric hookups are almost universal: 357 of 363 sites have power. Skies run dark across the area, rated Bortle class 3–4, with good stargazing on most nights. Every one of the nine campgrounds puts a boat ramp within about a quarter mile of camp.

This is a lake for people who want their boat, their rig, and the shoreline within reach of the picnic table. Anglers, RV travelers, and stargazers all find sites built for them here. Use Campscout to compare every site by the numbers and book the one that fits.

Theodosia Park owns the shoreline story: every one of its 28 sites counts as waterfront, and the closest pad sits just 10 feet from the lake — the nearest any site in the area gets. It also posts the highest average site score of any campground here. Elevated views are scarce; only four bluff sites exist across all 363, and half of them belong to Tucker Hollow Park.

Noise splits the area in two. Lakeview Park is exceptionally quiet — 70 of its 80 sites rate as genuinely peaceful — while several lakeside campgrounds trade silence for water access. Five campgrounds, including Oakland Park and Buck Creek, sit under Bortle 1–2 skies, the darkest rating possible. On a clear night, the Milky Way is the show.

Who It's For

Boaters should start at Tucker Hollow Park, where the ramp is steps from camp, or Theodosia Park, where every site touches the waterfront zone. Families get the easiest setup at Lakeview Park — quiet sites, a nearby swim area, and the most room to spread out. RV rigs can plug in almost anywhere, with Lead Hill and Oakland Park fully electrified. Stargazers and tent campers who want both silence and dark skies should book Tucker Hollow Park.
